William Judson
William Thadius Judson Sr. was born in Detroit, MI. However, raised in Atlanta, GA starting at age 1. Raised as an only child by a single parent Bobbie Judson. She, being a Middle and High School Teacher always instilled in William the importance of being a student-athlete with the emphasis on “Student”. In fact, William was not allowed to play football until he proved that he was serious about academics.
William started playing Little League Football at the age of 9
and because his team Anderson Park did not have a 10 and Under Team, he played for the 12 and Under Team. Coach Charles Rambo was his 1st football coach and is responsible for molding his football talent and being a father figure
to him. William went to Sylvan Hills High School where he played for Coach Willie Hunter who continued to mentor him and teach him about football and life. More importantly, William graduated Number 7 out of 163 students with
Honors and a 3.67 GPA. He received a Full Academic-Athletic scholarship to attend South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, SC. While attending S.C. State, William set goals and excelled academically, athletically, and socially in college. He graduated Cum Laude, with a 3.17 GPA with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Economics. He pledged Kappa Alpha Psi and was a Presidential Scholar all 8 semesters while in college. His football career was also stellar as he played
for Coach Willie Jeffries. William made All-M.E.A.C. 3 years in a row and was a Black College, All-American his senior season. The Miami Dolphins drafted William in the 8th Round, the 208th player drafted in The 1981 NFL Draft. The
winningest coach in NFL History Coach Don Shula guided him in 9 of his 10-Year NFL career. His final season was spent in Detroit playing for The Lions.
William ended his career as one of The Miami Dolphins' Top 100 (#59) Players in their storied history, with 24 interceptions returning 2 of them for touchdowns. William was also a Team Leader, as he was The Dolphins' Player Union Representative who led The Dolphins through 2 NFL Labor strikes. He is married to Vanessa St. Julien-Judson and they have 4 children: William Jr., Whitney, Amber, and Aaron.
